Netflix 13 Movie musical with at least 3 new songs written by Jason Robert Brown

The 2008 Broadway musical about middle school teenagers will air later this summer.

Soundtrack details for Netflix’s upcoming film adaptation by Jason Robert Brown, Dan Elish and Robert Horn have surfaced 13adapted from her 2008 Broadway musical. The Tamra Davis-directed film, due out on Streamer August 12, will feature at least three new songs written by Brown specifically for the screen version.

The film’s soundtrack will be released alongside the film on August 12, with appearances from the film’s teen cast, including Eli Golden, Gabriella Uhl, JD McCrary, Frankie McNellis, Lindsey Blackwell, Jonathan Lengel, Broadway The Lion King Alum Ramon Reed, Nolen Dubuc, Luke Islam, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Kayleigh Cerezo, Willow Moss, Liam Wignall and Khiyla Aynne. The film also has co-stars Debra Messing, Rhea Perlman, Josh Peck and Peter Hermann. Although none of the adult cast members are credited for any of the album’s tracks, they are reported to sing as follows in the film tweet of Brown.

New tracks not included in the stage version’s song listing are “I’ve Been Waiting”, “The Bloodmaster” and “It Would Be Funny”.

The Musical with a Book by Elish and tootsie Tony-winning Horn, which premiered in Los Angeles in 2007, took a bow on Broadway the following year. The production was the first – and so far only – musical to feature an all-teen cast and band. The group included a young Graham Phillips, Allie Trimm and Ariana Grande. The musical centers on 12-year-old Evan Goldman as he copes with a sudden move from NYC to Indiana, his parents’ divorce, and his upcoming bar mitzvah.

The release is the latest in Netflix’s growing catalog of stage-to-screen projects that join the on-screen adaptations of The prom and tick tick… BOOM!and the upcoming Emma Thompson-led Mathilde. The streamer is also currently developing a film version of the off-Broadway musical The Legend of Georgia McBride and a limited series based on the long-running Broadway musical A chorus line.
