10 Here I leave you

Originally based on a 2009 novel, Here I leave you is a dramedy about a dysfunctional family who must reunite after the death of the family patriarch and spend a week together. Directed by Jason Bateman, Tina Fey and Jennifer Aniston and directed by free guy‘s Shawn Levy, it had all the ingredients to be great.

Aside from making a small profit at the box office (about $21 million, not counting marketing costs, according to Box Office Mojo), Rotten Tomatoes called it “a disappointment” as it received poor reviews from both critics and audiences achieved. The ensemble cast is there, and at moments the family drama shines, but mostly it’s too simple in plot and sugary tone to satisfy either the drama or comedy it’s trying to balance.

9 Adults 2

Adult 2 cast

Rated as one of Adam Sandler’s Worst Movies on Rotten Tomatoes, Adults 2 is not a lost jewel of cinema; In fact, it came amid a wave of panned Sandler movies that would seemingly define the actor for the 2010s as a bunny who’d lost his mojo. Only recently with Unpolished gems and Hurry That has changed again, and Sandler shows impressive acting skills.

However, considering the cast itself, with many ex-members Saturday night live For members who also have plenty of experience in the standup world, it’s not hard to imagine that this film, or the first, would be a hilarious outing about growing up, parenthood and how times have changed. Instead, it feels like a Sandler vacation, subsidized by Sony and reimbursed by the public.

8th What to expect when you are pregnant

What to expect when you are pregnant

Named after and slightly adapted from a pregnancy guide of the same name, What to expect when you are pregnant boasts Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks and Anna Kendrick as leading women experiencing the difficulties of pregnancy and parenthood.

With a meager 23% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 5.7/10 on IMDb, this ensemble rom-com’s attempts at being charming didn’t land. The same year that Banks starred The hunger Games and Kendrick directed the first Pitch perfectit’s obvious the film had the talent, but the script didn’t offer much for the cast to even engage audiences.

7 Gulliver’s Travels

By 2010, Jack Black had made his mark in the world of comedy and both School of Rock and Kung Fu Panda show off the best it had to offer. But this adaptation of an 18th-century novel, while a surprise box office hit, was one of the major miscalculations of his career.

However, his failure is not due to Black at all, as the film finds him in a role very similar to the one that made his name in the first place. The biggest curiosity is actually the source material chosen for the project, since the original book was intended to be a critical satire of 18th-century society, the opposite of a vehicle for distracting humor that the film intended to be.

6 Be cool

Remember Get Shortythe 1995 crime comedy that co-wrote with pulp fiction, helped reshape John Travolta’s career in the 1990s? That’s what MGM and Fox banked on when they released the sequel ten years later Be coolthat changed the setting from the film to the music industry.

It not only featured the return of Travolta and Danny DeVito’s characters, but also brought Travolta and Uma Thurman back together pulp fiction. Destined for success? nope What it becomes instead is an excuse to cash in on nostalgia and be a vehicle to revitalize Travolta’s career. Although it’s not nearly as bad as the other big 1990s sequel this year, son of the maskit still doesn’t justify going back there Get Shorty‘s world.

5 Masked and anonymous

Masked and anonymous Bob Dylan

A film starring pop culture icon Bob Dylan alongside Angela Bassett, Christian Slater, Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Mickey Rourke, Penelope Cruz and Val Kilmer basically seemed like an excuse to print money and awards to obtain.

What it became instead was, as Roger Ebert himself put it in his 1/2 star review, “an unreasonable vanity production”. The film definitely feels like it was shot specifically as part of Bob Dylan’s brand, and considering Dylan is a co-writer on the film, what other conclusions must be drawn? It ends up wasting everyone’s talent, including the Nobel Prize-winning musical star.

4 Fantastic Four (2015)

How fitting it is in number four! 2015’s attempt to revive Marvel’s first family in cinematic form, Fantastic Four is one of the worst film remakes for Ranker, while also being recognized for how much potential it had given the cast assembled for the film.

Miles Teller had just been celebrated for it whiplashand Michael B. Jordan brought the the same year Rocky franchise back with Believenevertheless, the film managed to be the worst Fantastic Four trip to date. Considering the flak Mr. Fantastic received from John Krasinski for his Doctor Strange 2 Looks, maybe there really is a curse when it comes to adapting The Fantastic Four for the big screen.

3 The big wedding

The Big Wedding 2013 cast

What do you get when you cast Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Robin Williams and Susan Sarandon in a comedy film about a wedding? You get acc the thin one‘s Josh Slater-Williams (as also cited in the Ranker listing), a film “completely devoid of laughter… [that’s] also fueled by repulsive misogyny, homophobia and racial stereotyping.”

Having these screen legends in such a horrific movie doesn’t save the movie at all. If anything, it’s the cinematic equivalent of auto-tuning a truly untalented singer: it’s at a point where what’s meant to improve the material only accentuates the problems. It’s disappointing that this was one of Robin Williams’ last films.

2 New Year’s Eve

New Year's Eve movie poster 2011

Although it wasn’t a box office flop Mother’s Day, New Year’s Eve was also directed by Garry Marshall and released in late 2011 as a follow-up to his earlier efforts valentines day. It was also a critically panned ensemble play, as this mundane rom-com dram was one of the worst films of the year.

The cast is too long to name, but Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl (both also in The big wedding), Michelle Pfeiffer and Hilary Swank definitely deserve a top-notch script. Almost every single member of the main cast has acted in better movies or TV shows than this one. The best thing about New Year’s Eve made people appreciate the clean cinematic slate that 2012 would bring.

1 Batman & Robin

Cast of Batman and Robin

Despite being widely considered the worst Batman film of all time, Batman & Robin it’s still fun to watch if you just laugh at it. Features some of the funniest Batman movie quotes of all time, Batman & Robin is definitely a movie worth seeing, not because it’s well done, but for exactly the opposite reason.

Although even George Clooney admits the film was bad, it won Best Supporting Actor in 2006. Alicia Silverstone had just starred cluelessUma Thurman in pulp fiction, and Arnold Schwarzenegger had dominated the films of the 1980s and early 90s. This could have worked with a better script. Still a Batman ’97 Comic could be an interesting read and a hit if DC ever pulls it off.
