Lilo and Nani fight in Lilo and Stitch

Lilo & Stitch is just one of many Disney classics lining up to get the live-action treatment, with stories like The Little Mermaid, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Hercules currently in development. With Halle Bailey as Ariel, The little mermaid wrapped filming in the summer of 2021 and is set to hit theaters on May 26, 2023. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs also wrapped up filming, with lead actress Rachel Zegler recently taking to social media to share the news. Unlike these upcoming projects Lilo & Stitch probably won’t hit screens anytime soon. The movie is currently scheduled to skip theaters instead of going straight to Disney+, and with no cast members being announced, filming is unlikely to begin for some time.

It will be interesting to see if Fleischer-Camp can bring a new perspective to the beloved Disney classic while also capturing the sense of nostalgia many have for the original film. Another big question is whether or not the original voice actors will be involved in some way in the live-action remake. This is something that weighed on Nani’s voice actress, Tia Carrere, during a recent interview. Regardless of whether the director manages to adopt his attitude Lilo & Stitch as refreshingly childish and carefree as Marcel the shell with shoes on, It will surely be a heartfelt trip down the Disney memory lane.
