It has so many things that call it perfect (in my eyes):

  1. It’s a Muppet movie

  2. Tim Curry is the perfect Long John Silver, charismatic and menacing.

  3. The musical numbers are pure brilliance and extremely catchy.

  4. Deservably funny and wholesome comedy.

  5. Fun for every family member.

The post quickly went viral, with most users agreeing with it and giving their own reasons why they think the film is so amazing. Many felt that the film was so successful and wonderful because it was such a close adaptation of the book. One of the users who thought so was u/_BestThingEver_ who wrote:

Love for this film as a child inspired me to read the original novel Treasure Island as an adult. It’s now one of my favorite books and I actually think the Muppet version is a really excellent adaptation.

It’s obviously a lot cleaner, but it captures the spirit of the novel and nails the dynamic between the characters. I’m surprised at how well it portrays the complicated relationship between Jim and Silver in the context of a children’s film. Tim Curry is also quite amazing as Long John Silver, a role I knew would be very difficult to cast. And Kermit as Captain Smollett is restrainedly brilliant.

I also think it has the best musical numbers of any Muppet movie. Both best Treasure Island movie and best Muppet movie. However, Treasure Planet also deserves a look inside.

For some, it’s Tim Curry’s portrayal of Long John Silver. For others it’s the jokes that both adults and children love and enjoy and for some it’s the great music created by the legendary Hans Zimmer.
