For Jojo is a 2022 drama directed by Barbara Ott. With Carol Kult, Nina Gummisch and Steven Sowa.
A story written by Steven Sowa.
Jojo and Paula have been best friends since childhood.
Now they are grown up, they share an apartment in Berlin and they rely on each other for everything. The setup seems to work for both. Party seems to be the name of their game.
Enter Daniel and the drama begins.
Jojo and Daniel fall in love and get engaged, soon to be married. This news sends Paula into a spiral. Her life is suddenly destroyed. Their plans, which ironically appear to be none, are now changed. Paula is now broke, feeling abandoned and desperate. She’s not afraid to show her disappointment at her best friend’s future plans, which only include her in passing.
The film is full of irony. One of the most notable is Paula herself, who asks, “Ever heard of borders?”
A compelling story that turned out to be less dramatic than expected but more human in its portrayal of the changes a friendship can go through and how those involved are affected and how they react. Highly psychological and devoid of melodrama, it gives us a good hassle-free performance that we recommend if you’re looking for a down-to-earth feature film.
As far as the dialogue goes, it flows naturally. He convinces with the social-realistic approach of the film.
