The vast majority of HBO Max’s roster consists of films and shows it directly owns, but it occasionally dabbles in things made by other people.

A large part of this is due to an agreement between Disney and WarnerMedia, HBO’s parent company, to let select films from 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures stream on Disney Plus, Hulu and HBO Max. As a result, HBO Max gets a lot of the latest releases, but they don’t hang around forever.
