With Greenville County Schools returning to classrooms on August 15 are preparing for many back-to-school events to help the community by providing teachers and students with the materials they need to have a successful year.

Here’s a guide on how you can help local students and teachers by donating school supplies, your time or financial support – or if you know a student or family in need, here’s what to get started with need the school year.

Friday 5 August

Bon Secours is organizing a backpacking tour from 1:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is asking for the following materials:

  • backpacks
  • composition books
  • pens (blue, black, red)
  • Three ring binders (1 inch and 2 inch)
  • Colored pencils, 24 pieces
  • Dry erase markers
  • Crayola product marker
  • Pencils (pre-sharpened Ticonderoga or Dixie)
  • Colored pencils, 12 pieces

Saturday August 6th

Carolina Family Services is hosting its 6th Annual Back to School Giveaway from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., giving away 500 free book bags with materials inside. They are currently accepting donations of book bags with supplies and dropping them off at one of their addresses. They also accept cash donations through their PayPal.

United Way is also giving away packed backpacks for their School Tools event. They have a detailed guide of school supplies needed for different ages from elementary school students to high school students. Not only are they looking for donations of school supplies, but also dry goods and hygiene items.

Woodruff Road Christian Church is giving away 500 backpacks of supplies to elementary and middle school students.

Sunday 7 August

Greenville Pentecostal Church’s Back-to-School event will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will include the giving away of free school supplies.

Saint Paul UMC will host a Pack the Backpack event from 1:30pm to 5:30pm where students can pack their own backpacks with the materials needed.

Monday, 8.8

Comal864 will offer free hot dogs for kids and a school supplies giveaway. They are also asking for donations for all size khakis, shorts and pants.

Wednesday 10 August

Morningside Baptist Church will be hosting their Back to School Splash, offering free school boxes for Morningside Kids and other children in our community.

You can help by donating school supplies outside of the children’s wing, preparing school boxes, courting neighborhoods, and serving at these events.

Supplies are needed:

  • pencils
  • erasers
  • glue sticks
  • sharp scissors
  • 24 pack of colored pencils
