Over ten years since James Cameron’s theatrical debut avatar, which would oust Titanic and become the highest-grossing film of all time, the sci-fi adventure franchise will finally return with a sequel later this year. we only know so much about it The way of the water now, and more is sure to be revealed. But an important element that we’re doing is that it introduces Jake Sully and Neytiri’s children, who were brought into the storyline for a reason that’s close to the heart of the filmmaker.
James Cameron planned his avatar Sequels pretty much since the original film released in 2009. The writer-director is an astute filmmaker who is usually very considered when it comes to the creative choices he makes. When asked about the decision to give his protagonists, played by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, children, Cameron explained that it adds something crucial that he feels is absent in contemporary fantasy films:
I am father of five children. I look around – I don’t want to say the Marvel Universe or the DC Universe specifically – at current fantasy and sci-fi and all of these heroes seem to be unbound in the swamp of relationships, the stuff that drags you down and your wings , that keeps you from walking around risking your life. I thought, ‘What if I take these incredible characters from Jake and Neytiri and give them a family?’ That gives them feet of clay right there.
As the legendary director explained Rich, in some big franchises, heroes stand alone without families. Also, James Cameron has a large family of his own, and that’s an important part of his life. With that, he decided to add the young characters to that upcoming movie 2022 and presumably the other planned sequels.
As far as we know, Jake and Neytiri will have three biological Na’vi children in Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), and Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss). They will also come across an orphaned human boy they will take in, played by Jack Champion. Also, thanks to the power of motion capture, Sigourney Weaver will play a Na’vi teenager named Kiri. Her original character in the franchise, Dr. Grace Augustine, died in the first film.
Also part of the Avatar: Way of the Water to water are Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel, Cliff Curtis and Jemaine Clement to name a few. The film employs some cutting-edge technology, particularly in relation to its many underwater sequences shot with performance capture… underwater – a first in cinema history.
James Cameron does way of the water specially to enjoy that on the big screen He’s confident the “audience will want it.” And considering the massive number of views of the avatar 2 followers received when it went online (which allowed it to surpass the last few war of stars movies along with Black widow and Incredible 2) this could be another big release for Cameron.
We don’t know the running time, but we do know James Cameron’s final words on this, looks like it’s going to be a long session. But if the dynamic in this new family of films is as compelling as the director teases, it should be entertaining throughout. Avatar: Way of the Water hits theaters on December 16th. You can now stream the first film with a Disney+ subscription.
