Steven Spielberg has had such an outsized impact on the entertainment industry that it’s hard to overstate his impact. In addition to being one of the wealthiest filmmakers in the world, Spielberg has served as the director of some of the most celebrated films in cinematic history. His recent works include Westside Storybut Spielberg’s deep filmography stretches back decades and includes multiple Oscars.
The director also has an interesting connection to actress Jessica Capshaw (best known for playing Arizona Robbins Grey’s anatomy). Surprisingly, when asked about her favorite Spielberg movie, Capshaw didn’t choose the one she starred in.
Jessica Capshaw and Steven Spielberg are a family
Jessica Capshaw is an actress best known for her long career Grey’s anatomy. From 2009 to 2018 she played Dr. Arizona Robbins. She has since starred in the romantic comedy Vacation and will have a starring role in the upcoming drama Dear Zoe.
Capshaw is also the stepdaughter of Steven Spielberg. She was just eight years old in 1984 when her mother (Kate Capshaw) starred in the film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, one of Steven Spielberg’s classic hits. At the time, Spielberg was dating Amy Irving. After marrying and subsequently divorcing, he and Capshaw began a relationship. In 1991, they officially tied the knot and started a blended family of entertainers.
Jessica Capshaw was in a Steven Spielberg film, but it’s not her favorite
Jessica Capshaw had a small role in the 2002 action film minority report. Titled Tom Cruise and based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, the film explores a dystopian future where authorities arrest would-be murderers before they can commit their crimes.
Despite her appearance in the hit, it’s not Capshaw’s favorite Spielberg film. While giving a video interview for People, Capshaw answered a series of questions she pulled out of a vase. She didn’t even hesitate when asked which of her famous stepfather’s films was her favorite: “My favorite Steven Spielberg film is ET”
Capshaw is definitely in good company. The 1982 adventure film follows an adorable alien and a big-hearted child’s efforts to help him escape from Earth. The Numbers reports that the film grossed $793 million worldwide, making it Spielberg’s eighth highest-grossing film and the oldest title in the top 10. It also holds a special place in Spielberg’s heart, as the director’s talks about how the film was made – and working with a precocious 6-year-old Drew Barrymore – let him know he wanted to be a father.
Steven Spielberg has 7 children
Jessica Capshaw is Spielberg’s oldest child, but he has several other children. As reported by Hollywood Life, Spielberg had one child from his first marriage, a son named Max Spielberg. Kate Capshaw adopted Theo Spielberg prior to her marriage to Steven Spielberg, and the director adopted Theo after he and Kate got married. Spielberg and Kate Capshaw welcomed four more children: Sasha Spielberg, Sawyer Spielberg, Mikaela Spielberg and Destry Spielberg.
Jessica Capshaw is probably the most famous of the group. But some of the kids have found their feet in the entertainment. Sawyer Spielberg is an actor who appeared in horror honeydew. Sasha Spielberg is a solo musician and performs alongside her brother Theo Spielberg as one half of the folk duo Wardell. Destry Spielberg is a model with some acting achievements. Mikaela Spielberg is an actress working in the adult film industry.
