After the sexual assault charges against him, the embattled actor, Kevin Spacey was dropped from the lead role in the historical drama, 1242: Gateway to the West. According to Variety, the actor will no longer direct the film as negotiations are ongoing to find a replacement.
Given the sexual assault against him, Spacey will not star in the historical drama in which he was set to play the role of a canon, a holy man who leads the defenders of a Hungarian castle against one of Genghis Khan’s invading armies. approved Bill Chamberlain, the producer of the film. This isn’t the first time Spacey’s unsavory behavior has cost him a role. He lost his role as Frank Underwood in the Netflix political series house of cards after similar allegations in 2017. Spacey has been accused of sexual harassment and abuse by several men. This includes the case of three anonymous men who accused the actor of sexual assault in the UK between 2005 and 2013. He appeared in the Old Bailey Criminal Court on Thursday and has pleaded not guilty to all five counts of sexual assault to which he is currently facing. The trial is scheduled to begin on June 6 next year. Later that year, however, Spacey faces a civil lawsuit in New York brought by an actor Anton Rapp. Rapp was the first to publicly accuse Spacey in 2017 – the case will be heard in October. British broadcaster Channel 4 has ordered a documentary series by the name Spacey exposed which will follow the actor’s rise and fall as well as his current legal battles.
1242: Gateway to the West will continue without Spacey. The film was bought at the Cannes Film Market and will have a budget of $10-25 million. While Chamberlain is producing the film, peter soos will conduct. A two-month shoot for the film is scheduled to begin on October 17.
