Peter Parker/Spider-Man has celebrated last year’s huge success in the MCU thanks to the deal signed by Sony Pictures and Disney/Marvel Studios for 2015 Spider-Man: No Way Home Sony’s highest-grossing film of all time. As the MCU continues to expand its multiverse, Sony has sought to help develop its Spider-Man universe Venom, Venom: let there be carnage and Morbid, which must still contain Tom Holland’s web slingers. Sony has also greenlit several other spin-offs based on Spider-Man characters, including Kraven the Hunter, El Muertoand Mrs. Netz.

These pictures and Slane’s description seem to confirm this Mrs. Netz will take place, at least in part, in early 21st-century New York City. That this is from Sony Venom, Morbius and Kraven the Hunter With all the films taking place in the present, it’s interesting to see that Madame Web will use the same timeframe as Sam Raimi’s original Spiderman Trilogy hit theaters. To No way home brought three generations together Spiderman Cinema, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men re-entered the pop culture zeitgeist. Given how Let there be carnage and disease‘ Credits scenes tie in No way homethe multiverse is the key to the future of Sony’s Spider-Man universe. So it wouldn’t be surprising if Mrs. Netz somehow revisits Raimi’s trilogy or Marc Webb’s The Incredible Spiderman movies.

In the comics, the character of Madame Web possesses psychic sense powers that allow her spirit to traverse the web of life and destiny – the connective tissue that binds the entire multiverse together. In short, Madame Web can perceive everything that is, was, will and could be, which could account for this journey into the past. This aspect of her character is believed to be why Sony has focused on Madame Web, which lacks the brand awareness of either Spider-Gwen or Spider-Woman. The upcoming Mrs. Netz offers a tremendous number of possibilities and will likely be the Spider-Verse film to solve Sony’s disease problems. While it will be a while before details surrounding the film are revealed, the prospect of Mrs. Netz Revisiting a Spider-Man from the ’00s is beyond fascinating.
