Martin Lawrence recently reunited with his cast mates for the 30th anniversary of his ’90s sitcom Martin and he’s still basking in the afterglow of the warm welcome it’s received from fans on social media. One of the characters he created for this show was fan favorite Sheneneh Jenkins, and he reveals he still wants to move forward with a movie idea that would see the character collaborate with Jamie Foxx’ Wanda from the variety show. In vivid color.

At a performance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Lawrence was asked if he was interested in rebooting the series. The comedian explained that he’d love to work with the cast again on another project, but didn’t think a reboot would recapture the magic of the original show. During the discussion, Lawrence revealed the project he wanted to see, and at that point he said that there was once an idea to do a film that would combine his sheneneh with Jamie Foxx’s Wanda, and that’s something he’s still doing would like:

“I would like to see a film with Sheneneh. We were supposed to do a film with Sheneneh and Jamie Foxx with Wanda, but it never happened. If we could ever get this together you would all like it.”

Rumors of a Sheneneh and Wanda film first began in the late 2000s. The idea came about as a result of a parody movie trailer for a movie called Skank Raid that Foxx and Lawrence did for the 2009 BET Awards. Foxx even spoke about the film being scripted in a 2010 interview with HipHollywood:

“The film Wanda and Sheneneh is officially written. We will officially launch in the next few months. If I tell you listen, Martin Lawrence is back, you won’t believe it. So get ready.”

Although Variety reported in 2009 that film production and distribution company Screen Gems had acquired the rights to the film, the project never materialized. In 2017, Foxx even commented on Lawrence’s Instagram that he was preparing everything to start production, but still nothing.

I really think this would be a fun project because both of these characters were staples of 90’s comedic pop culture and still make them laugh today. Sheneneh was a character portrayed by Martin Lawrence on his eponymous sitcom. She was his cheeky and rowdy neighbor who frequently got into hilarious arguments with Tisha Campbell’s Gina and Tichina Arnold’s Pam. Wanda was portrayed by Jamie Foxx in In Living Color and she has been described as “The ugliest woman in the world…so ugly no one wanted to be in the same room with her.” It was Foxx’s signature role on the hit variety show.
