There are very few obstacles to Top Gun: Maverick to beat, but it has now passed one of the remaining milestones to become Paramount Pictures’ highest-grossing release in the studio’s 110-year history at the domestic box office. While James Cameron’s epic Titanic has borne that title for almost 25 years, Top Gun: Maverick officially sunk the 1997 film as Paramount’s all-time top big. After the 1986 sequel has now grossed $601.9 million top gun still surprises everyone by blowing away record after record.

Hitting theaters over Memorial Day weekend after a release delay of almost two years thanks to the Covid pandemic, Top Gun: Maverick has proven that good things come to those who wait. As if it were the first global $1 billion film in the pandemic era, holding the position of the 50th $1 billion film of all time and easily the highest-grossing film of Tom Cruise’s career , Top Gun: Maverick managed to overthrow the powerful titanic with relative ease. Considering how long James Cameron’s film has stood atop Paramount Mountain, and that we’re just emerging from the pandemic and all the closures and disruptions it has brought, the accomplishment is staggering. In a statement, Brian Robbins, President and CEO of Paramount Pictures said:

“For 110 years, Paramount Pictures has produced and distributed some of the most iconic films in Hollywood history, including the all-time classic Titanic, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Top Gun: Maverick is a phenomenal feature film and we are taking it on I am very proud to be able to do this tremendous work together with Tom Cruise, our filmmakers and cast, our marketing and distribution teams and of course all the new and original Top Gun fans celebrate, without which this would not have been possible.”

When speaking to entertainment tonight, Teller revealed he had been talking about someone else top gun Movie starring Tom Cruise but he said at the end it’s all up to Cruise whether it happens or not.

While there has been a huge outpouring of love for Top Gun: Maverickit was a multi-faceted thing, from the nostalgia of going back to the original top gun Story in many ways, the return of not just Tom Cruise but Val Kilmer as Iceman and the fact that Top Gun: Maverick actually seemed to have a story worth telling and wasn’t just trying to make money from the original film. The question now is whether a third film could capture the same feeling. Even if the numbers are around Top Gun: Maverick add up to large amounts of money, and that in turn usually makes someone want another bite of the cherry, there’s something to keeping that about top gun Legacy that could end up preventing that from happening.
