This is shown by a study by Uswitch Spider-Man: No Way Home to be the most illegally watched film of that year. The Marvel and Sony blockbuster, which hit theaters in December 2021, had a tremendous showing in theaters and spent several months at the top of the box office as immense profits rolled in. However, despite so many people flocking to theaters to see this film, not everyone was ready to skip the batter. According to the Uswitch study, there were 83,390 searches for illegal films per month in 2022 Spider-Man: No Way Home streams. It’s not even close when it comes to the #2 film, which would be Avengers: Endgame at 3,210 monthly searches, followed by Interstellar with 2,910 monthly searches.
Directed by Jon Watts and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No Way Home was such a success in part because a story was two decades in the making. The film brought back characters from Tobey Maguire Spiderman trilogy, along with those by Andrew Maguire the incredible spiderman movies. Maguire and Garfield reprized their versions of Peter Parker to team up with the MCU incarnation of the web-slinger, played by Tom Holland. Seeing all three Spideys on the big screen is widely regarded as one of the greatest crossover moments of all time, and people were determined to see it at all costs, even if it meant no financial cost at all.
Despite heavy piracy, Spider-Man: No Way Home was a huge success
Watching movies illegally may not cost a pirate a movie ticket, but there are risks involved. Uswitch broadband expert Nick Baker has stressed the importance of avoiding online piracy as it is not worth the risks involved.
“With the rising cost of living, some people may be turning to illegal downloads to access their favorite TV shows, movies, games and software online,” Baker said.
Baker adds: “Using illegal piracy websites can put users at extreme risk of hacking and phishing scams, leaving your personal information vulnerable. Additionally, industries affected by illegal downloads monitor the internet closely and may take legal action against you if caught doing so. While the temptation to pirate your favorite content is tempting, you should ask yourself if it’s really worth exposing yourself to the risk of fraud and legal action.”
