Decades ago, if you wanted to see the latest release, you went to the drive-in cinema. With your sweetheart by your side and a bucket of popcorn to share, you can just relax in your own car and enjoy the show. Today, drive-in theaters are far less common than they used to be, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on that classic American experience.

In addition to Valley’s Quasar Drive-In, there is Scottsbluff’s SkyView Drive-In, Bellevue’s FalconWood Drive-In, Alliance’s Sandhills Drive-In and Neligh’s TK/Starlite. The Sandhills was closed for a couple of seasons while it changed hands, and the TK/Starlite is closed at the time of publication, although owners say it’s not permanently closed.

Thursdays are “Classics With a Cause” when a single classic film is screened for free. However, patrons are encouraged to make donations to local charities while in the theater. On Fridays and Saturdays you can see a double feature for a very reasonable price.

All the standards are there, like popcorn, candy, and soda, but there are also burgers, hot dogs, nachos, and more. If you wish to bring your own food, you must purchase a food license before entering the theater.

Visitors are also invited to play around the grounds before the film. The large, open space is perfect for families to play games and work off some extra energy before settling down for the movie.

Showtimes, ticket prices and movie schedules are listed on Quasar Drive-In’s website. You can also check the theater’s Facebook page for information on special events and other important news.
