Selena Gomez Sigourney Weaver

Selena Gomez wants to reboot Sigourney Weaver’s best film, the 1988 romantic business comedy working girl. According to a report by Deadline, the 20th Century studio plans to reissue the 1980s classic with the Wizards of Waverly Place with Ilana Peña trying to customize the property; Peña is known for her writing work on the musical comedy Crazy ex girlfriend and for creating the Disney+ streaming series Diary of a future President. Though details are few as of yet, it’s likely that Selena Gomez would star in one working girl Reboot expected to stream on Hulu.

working girl

working girl Stars Melanie Griffith as a Staten Island secretary looking to get ahead in the business world of 1980s Manhattan. It seems likely that Selena Gomez would play some version of this role, whether directly related to the Tess McGill character or just thematically related. In the original film, Melanie Griffith’s character dramatically quits her job when she works for a young Oliver Platt in a sexist, jingoistic office (cue classic Selena Gomez storm scene) and manages to land a job with Sigourney Weaver, who plays the confident manager Katharine parkers As the film progresses, Melanie Griffith gets caught up in a love triangle between Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaver, a business plan is stolen and passed off as someone else’s work, and in the end the good people win. As I said, a classic of the 1980s.

While working girl maybe not remembered as well as ghostbusters or Foreigner (or Selena Gomez’s number one single “Lose You to Love Me”) earned Sigourney Weaver her third Oscar nomination and is legendary for its iconic 1980s fashion. Incredibly, though she hasn’t won one yet, Sigourney Weaver’s portrayal of the strong but two-faced Katharine is one of the highlights of her career and a different aspect of her acting personality from the fireproof and action-oriented characters she’s best known for. However, both Harrison Ford and Melanie Griffith were nominated for Oscars for the film working girl ultimately won only one, for the original song “Let the River Run” by Carly Simon. The film was also a tremendous box office success, grossing a total of $103 million in its original run.

Selena Gomez already has a working relationship with Hulu, so updating that Sigourney Weaver movie there would make a lot of sense. Selena Gomez is currently starring in Hulu’s Only murders in the building, the acclaimed mystery comedy show from Steve Martin and John Hoffman. On the show, she portrays Mabel Mora, a young woman with a dark past who is renovating an apartment in the Arconia apartment building in New York City. When one of her neighbors is murdered, she teams up with Steve Martin (who plays a depressed actor) and Martin Short (who plays a very exuberant theater producer). Only murders in the building is currently airing its second season and has already been renewed for a third, so there’s a very good chance we’ll have two different Selena Gomez shows on Hulu in the future.
