No list of this nature would be complete without Super 8, directed by Star Wars boss JJ Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg. In the summer of 1979, while filming a homemade zombie movie, a group of teenagers witness a truck collide with a train. Inexplicable events continue to shake the area. For puzzles, supernatural action, and young friends who ride bikes and use walkie-talkies, give this one a watch.

We know four best friends who would give Ghostbusters a mega Marshmallow Man-sized seal of approval. A memorable scene from Stranger Things season 2 is when Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will wear over-the-top Ghostbusters costumes to school… only to find out no one else has dressed up for Halloween. In her honor, spend some quality time with Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver and the rest of the cast of this popular comedy.

In this slightly spooky horror film, teenage Charley Brewster (yes, that’s his real name) discovers a horrifying secret – his neighbor is actually a vampire and is behind several disappearances in their Iowa town. For a story about teenagers taking on monsters, an 80’s vibe, awesome special effects (and I say it – hot as hell vampires), Fright Night ticks all the right boxes.

This might be a joker, but it’s necessary for Stranger Things fans or those who missed the film as a kid. Adventure, a friendly dragon, and child protagonists are all part of the cake. And you can finally sing the theme song with Dustin and Suzie if you rewatch Season 3 Episode 8.

The Fear Streets Trilogy (2021)

Stream Where: Netflix

Yes, I count that as three films. When Netflix released the Fear Street episodes last summer, I had no idea what a treat they were going to be. Nostalgia is an element here — the first film takes things back to the ’90s, the second to the ’70s, and the third to the 17th century, because who doesn’t love to look back fondly on caps and ruffled sleeves. To kid! If you loved the focus on Max (Sadie Sink) this season, the actress has a huge role to play in this trilogy.

This horror flick dealt another brutal blow to the reputation of clowns. Based on Stephen King’s classic book, the film pits six likeable outcasts against a sewage-loving supernatural being. The Duffer Brothers, who created Stranger Things, have acknowledged the book’s great influence on the series. You’ll also discover Finn Wolfhard (aka Mike) among the cast of the film.

ET the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

After spending so much time with Stranger Things Season 4 villain Vecna, I would imagine a date night with a benign imaginary creature like ET sounds pretty good. (It’s certainly well-deserved.) Open a box of Reese’s Pieces and watch.

Can be a movie to similar to Stranger Things? The first 20 minutes of Summer of 84 evokes so many stranger things isms that it seems impossible not to compare it to the beloved show. “Children against malevolent forces from a parallel universe” could describe both Stranger Things and this stop-motion animated horror film for children. And both are excellent choices for your night out.

Carrie is attacked by some ruthless bullies in the film adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic 1976 novel, much like our girl Eleven, who is confronted by viciously mean teenagers in this season of Stranger Things (culminating in that Carrie-esque scene at the reel, of course). Rink). Stephen King himself has called out the “Carrie riff” of the season, though he didn’t specifically say what he was referring to. Either way, Sissy Spacek’s Oscar-nominated portrayal of the prom queen is a must-see at least once in your life. Why not now?

John Krasinski’s suspenseful horror film about a family trying to survive a monster apocalypse is a lot more harrowing than Stranger Things, but there are some similarities. In Millicent Simmons you’ll find a fearless young protagonist that the kids of Stranger Things would love to welcome to their team. See her and the others deal with terrifying creatures that attack when they hear sounds.

When a horde of monsters from RL Stine’s legendary spine-tingling books invade the real world, Jack Black and some teenage actors team up to take them down. This family-friendly horror comedy is cheesier than Stranger Things, but it can serve as a solid diversion from the supernatural show’s hiatus.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

The chilling ending to episode 1 and what happened to Eddie afterward felt vaguely familiar when I watched season 4. Then it hit me: A Nightmare on Elm Street. If you’ve dug up that season of the show, it’s time to revisit the 1984 horror classic. Another fun fact: Victor Creel, the former Vecna victim that Robin and Nancy meet in episode 4, is actually played by original Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund.

Are adventure movies for kids becoming more classic than The Goonies? A group of eye-catching youngsters embark on a perilous quest for hidden treasure. Because booby traps and unknown terrain are apparently not enough, she is also pursued by a gangster family. If, like me as a kid, you were too scared of the horror elements in this movie to fully appreciate it, it’s definitely worth playing again.
