Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were action film rivals in their heyday, but here are the former’s personal favorite Arnie movies.
They were once bitter rivals, but which ones Arnold Schwarzenegger movies does Sylvester Stallone like best? For a time in the ’80s and ’90s, Stallone and Schwarzenegger were two of the biggest movie stars in the world. Many of their biggest hits also shared the same basic formula, in which the stars – famed for their muscular physiques – played nigh-indestructible heroes with a penchant for one-liners who amassed large body counts.
Stallone had them rambo movies & cobrawhile Arnie had such The Terminator, command and predator. The two have openly admitted they were rivals during their heyday, and at the height of their feud, Arnie got Stallone to sign on Stop! Or my mother with shooting, knowing it would be a bomb. As audience tastes changed, the box office returns from Stallone and Schwarzenegger’s offerings began to dwindle.
This had the surprising effect of the two men becoming friends in real life, and they later worked together on the consumables Series and 2013 escape plan. Both Stallone and Schwarzenegger have some great films to their credit, and both have expressed admiration for each other’s work.
Stallone’s Favorite Arnie Movies Explained
During a Q&A in May 2022 with PlanetSLYStallone revealed his two favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger films, neither of which come as a huge surprise.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day was James Cameron’s long-awaited sequel to his breakthrough hit. The original terminator also made Schwarzenegger a movie star, but the sequel made the bold step of turning its title character from a villain into a hero. The result was a groundbreaking sci-fi action film packed with amazing set pieces and special effects. Aside from that, terminator 2 – which created a plot hole that the other sequels ignore – also featured great performances and genuine emotion. While Stallone didn’t address the reasons he loved terminator 2he probably realizes – as do many now – that the film and its success put Arnold at the absolute pinnacle of his fame.
True Lies (1994)
A remake of a reunited French spy comedy Arnold Schwarzenegger with cameron, True Lies was one of the star’s last major solo hits. The film portrays him as a super spy who is also a family man, but his attempts to keep his two worlds separate crumble. While The Terminator movies & Foreigner are often rated higher by fans of Cameron’s filmography, True Lies is still a very entertaining (albeit dated) action comedy. Sylvester Stallone loves it not only for the action, but because it offered Arnie a showcase for his many talents. The actor says: “ True Lies was very, very good because it was everything. The wit, the romantic aspect, the charm and then great action with a great director, so. that would do it.”
