7 Avengers (2018)
While avenger not necessarily new territory of the genre, but a highly entertaining martial arts action flick. We’re here for the action scenes and there’s plenty of exciting martial arts action to be had. Director Lee Seung-Won delivers visually appealing action scenes with plenty of relatable punches, kicks and bloodshed. But perhaps the film’s standout action scene was when Bruce Khan’s character picked up a sword and charged at his enemies. The scene delivered spectacular swordplay that was fast, intense and real.
In the near future, dangerous criminals are being held on a hellish prison island, while a man who deliberately sends himself to this island seeks revenge for his family’s murder.
6 The Adam Project (2022)
This action comedy reunites with Ryan Reynolds free guy Director Shawn Levy for a fun and exciting time travel film. Time travel isn’t necessarily the newest movie concept, however The Adam Project does enough to stand out from the rest. From its breathtaking action, fantastic visual effects and an immersive storyline, The Adam Project is certainly a Netflix action film not to be missed.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this film is its cast, which includes Ryan Reynolds, Zoe Saldana, and Catherine Keener, alongside Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, who play husband and wife, which has us all wondering if this time travel epic is an unofficial one 13 next 30 Consequence. The standout performance was Walker Scobell, who gave a hilarious and equally heartfelt performance as young Adam Reed, the younger version of Ryan Reynolds’ character. Scobell mimics Reynolds perfectly in the best possible way, even providing a hilarious nod to Ryan Reynolds’ red spandex-wearing hero; Dead Pool. With Scobell citing “superhero landing,” a recurring anecdote in the Dead Pool movies.
The Adam Project follows Adam Reed (Ryan Reynolds) on his crash landing in 2022 and soon finds the 12-year-old version of himself (Walker Scobell). This leads the pair on a dangerous mission to save the future by traveling back in time to reunite with their dead father (Mark Ruffalo).
5 The Old Guard (2020)
Charlize Theron really established herself as an action movie star with her roles in Mad Max: Fury Road and Atomic Blonde. The Old Guard is no exception as Theron once again delivers amazing action scenes that showcase her believable physicality and action star skills. The film is based on the comics of the same name and was written by Greg Rucka, the man behind the original comics. This gives the film and its story a sense of authenticity and is a genuine and well-done adaptation of the comic series. The choreography in the action is extremely well crafted and combines gun-fu that fires something like shots John Wick to its fame as an action film, alongside using swords and axes to pull off some fantastic kills. The film received mostly positive reviews, with critics praising Theron’s performance and physicality in the action scenes, as well as the plot as a whole.
The film follows a group of secret, centuries-old immortal mercenaries who have the ability to heal themselves. But when someone soon discovers his secret, the group must fight to protect themselves and their freedom.
4 The Gray Man (2022)
The latest film on this list stars Ryan Gosling in an action extravaganza directed by Russo Brother. This movie sold as one of Netflix’s greatest action movies to date, and it certainly delivers. All of the action scenes are exceptionally staged, with standout scenes being an explosive plane fight scene as well as an epic gunfight in Vienna. One of the biggest draws to Netflix action movies is the A-listers who star in them, and The gray man does not disappoint. Also starring Ryan Gosling, Ana De Armas, Rege-Jean Page and Chris Evans, who gave a delightfully funny and wicked performance as the mustache-wearing Lloyd. While the plot isn’t this film’s biggest selling point, the fun cast and huge, exciting action scenes make for an incredibly entertaining watch and get us excited about possible sequels and spin-offs.
Based on the book series of the same name The gray man follows Six (Ryan Gosling), part of the Gray Man Initiative (the CIA’s top asset), who unleashes a global hunt for assassins after revealing agency secrets.
Directed by stunt coordinator Sam Hargave, extraction definitely delivered what it set out to do. He delivers explosive stunts, beautifully shot action and amazing choreography. extraction is one of the best movies on the streaming service. While the film doesn’t offer a fresh plot or many interesting characters, the action is the film’s biggest draw and gives the film its edge over the competition. The film was such a hit that it quickly led to Netflix announcing a sequel to be released next year.
The film was successful with its very impressive 12-minute one-take (continuous), which seamlessly transitioned from car chases to gunfights and finally a tense one-on-one knife fight. In an interview with Indie Wire, Hargraves explained, “It probably took us four or five months from conception to execution.” That’s quite a bit of time, but it more than paid off as it was one of the most impressive action scenes of 2020.
extraction follows a black market mercenary hired to rescue the kidnapped son of a jailed international crime lord. But in the underworld of arms dealers and drug dealers, an already deadly mission quickly becomes impossible.
2 Army of the Dead (2021)
With its large scale, exciting action, fantastic characters and a zombie tiger, Zack Snyder’s latest zombie epic is nothing short of a spectacle. The film has a star-studded cast starring the likes of Dave Bautista, Hiroyuki Sanada, Omari Hardwick, Tig Natarro and the outstanding Matthias Schweighofer, who is simply lovable as Ludwig Dieter. The character quickly became a fan favorite. So much so that a spin-off is titled army of thievesreleased not long after Snyder’s zombie film, focuses on Ludwig’s journey to becoming a world-class safecracker.
Zack Snyder is the king of slow-mo movie intros and Army of the Deaddelivers one of the best of his career. We offer the audience a stylistically epic sequence as Las Vegas is overrun by thousands of undead, with Viva Las Vegas in full swing as we witness the bloody carnage unfold on screen. Army of the Dead has since been nominated for numerous awards, but most notably, the film won the Oscars Fan Favorite (2021) award at the 94th Academy Awards.
The film follows a group of mercenaries as they pull off the ultimate heist by heading into a zombie-infested Las Vegas in hopes of accomplishing the impossible. There they hope to steal the money and escape with their lives.
1 The Night Comes for Us (2018)
The action in this martial arts extravaganza is nothing short of breathtaking and goes in the same vein as The raid movies. Not only the action is top notch and comparable to the phenomenal action from The raid, but the film also plays two main stars from the start mugged Movie, Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais. They are incredible martial artists themselves, which is what makes their epic, brutal and very long fight at the end of the film so brilliant.
Be warned, this movie is not for the faint of heart as it is one of the most brutal, gory and violent action movies of all time. It contains a lot of stabbings, people being torn to pieces, and a very violent scene in a butcher’s shop that we won’t go into too much detail about. So much blood has spilled that there could possibly be Seen franchise a run for its money.
The night comes for us follows Ito (Joe Taslim), a gangland enforcer who turns his back on his former life as a killer by rescuing a young girl. Ito must fight for his life and that of the girl while countless thugs are dispatched to kill her, along with a deadly gang prospect (Iko Uwais).
