are you ready to enter The Matrix?

Or how about exploring a virtual oasis like the Steven Spielberg film, Ready player one?

Both popular science fiction films are about individuals who plug into a virtual world and do whatever is necessary to save the real world.

But you don’t have to worry about fighting monsters or being chased by villains. The experience I’m talking about is the Metaverse… a place where you can do just about anything you can imagine…

You can drive race cars, fly kites (yes…kites), change your appearance and walk around whatever you want to be (there are endless possibilities for online avatars).

A few weeks ago Wall Street unpluggedFrank Curzio interviewed Adam Russell, a cybersecurity expert and co-founder of REV3AL.

In an extensive interview, Adam shared his background…why he founded REV3AL…and why protecting/authenticating NFTs is critical to the future of the metaverse.

REV3AL focuses on digital anti-counterfeiting, copyright protection and cybersecurity technology. It’s the kind of company that helps keep the metaverse running smoothly and securely.

NFTs are unique digital assets secured on the blockchain — a digital ledger (like a giant, computerized receipt) that stores vast amounts of data. REV3AL specializes in things like tracking/ensuring ownership of an NFT… and verifying who created it.

NFTs can be anything that exists online…an image, a song, a character, clothing for your avatar, vehicles, even lots and buildings.

As you probably know, the Metaverse is under construction. Companies like Decentraland, The Sandbox, and TCG World — the company we recently partnered with by buying $5 million worth of Metaverse real estate — are some of the big players in this space.

Keep in mind that no one knows exactly what the metaverse will look like. Dozens (or possibly hundreds) of different companies are developing their own versions of the metaverse. But it will be a combination of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) that works similarly to a large open-world video game.

The lack of a clear definition is one of the things that makes the metaverse so exciting. The possibilities are endless. And users can experience this new world (or worlds) without leaving their homes. The goal is to create an experience so immersive you’ll think you’re in another world.

If you listen to last month’s podcast, you’ll hear Frank and Adam talk in detail about the future of the metaverse. According to Adam, the metaverse will reach a tipping point (a moment when it will explode in popularity/usage) as the cost of equipment (like game consoles and VR headsets) will drop to the point where it’s practically free.

Adam believes the metaverse will become “mainstream” within the next five years.

He also sees three main reasons that will make people start using the metaverse…

First of all, it allows you to attend concerts, sporting events and other gatherings that you would not be able to experience in person. In fact, online concerts are already trending: more than 12 million users attended one of rapper Travis Scott in April 2020.

The second reason humans go to the metaverse is for shopping, gambling, and similar activities. Imagine going to one of the most luxurious casinos in Las Vegas or Macau… shopping in the chicest shops in Paris… or exploring sights like the Pyramids or the Great Wall of China… all without leaving your home.

And the third reason people will enjoy the Metaverse is that it allows you to do anything you can imagine… just like some of our favorite sci-fi movies. You can explore new universes, interact with strange creatures (or other people), use exciting modes of transport, and even build your own version of paradise.

You can build your own business, develop land, host concerts, parties and conferences. It will be an immersive experience that acts as an extension (and enhanced version) of the current internet.

The most exciting aspect is the fact that we are still in the early innings of this massive growth story. Be sure to check out Frank’s interview with Adam Wall Street unplugged for more details on the incredible future potential of the metaverse.
