Top Gun: Maverick becomes Paramount’s highest-grossing film of all time worldwide as it reaches $1.2 billion worldwide, of which $600 million is domestic

Top Gun: Maverick hit a new milestone by surpassing $600 million at the international box office.

The tally takes the Tom Cruise sequel to more than $1.2 billion worldwide, cementing it as Paramount Pictures’ highest-grossing film of all time, according to Deadline.

The film, which was directed by Joseph Kosinski, is currently grossing $602.5 million from 65 offshore markets.

And in North America, it’s $606 million, bringing the total to $1,208.5 billion worldwide through Friday.

It is only the 12th film to have surpassed $600 million at the domestic box office.

Internationally, Top Gun: Maverick holds the third place for highest production company titles of all time.

The flick is now the biggest Paramount live action film of all time in 28 overseas markets including France, Australia and the UK.

Remarkably, this is the first film in Tom Cruise’s decade-long career to gross $1 billion.

Also of note is that Maverick eclipsed Titanic as Paramount’s highest-grossing film of all time.

The entertainment publication reported the top offshore markets for the week ended Thursday as the UK at $88.8 million, Japan at $65.4 million, Australia at $55.9 million, France at $46 million and Korea at $41.4 million Dollar.

The film was originally scheduled for a June 2020 release, but Paramount delayed the release until more fans could return after the pandemic lockdowns.

The project’s latest iteration — which follows Cruise as he reprises his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell from the 1986 classic — also earned the star his first $100 million opening weekend.

Top Gun: Maverick focuses on the relationship between Maverick and his dead best friend’s son, Goose.

Fans gave him a rare A+ rating on CinemaScore.
