A debate is raging among Marvel fans as to what is the best film or television project in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame.
There was a heated debate with fans about the best MCU phase 4 film or television project. iron manThe box office smash of 2008 launched the highest-grossing film franchise of all time, with comic book heroes Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Incredible Hulk taking the lead and forming a team in 2012 The Avengers. Retrospectively, this initial phase was referred to as Phase 1, with each “phase” of the MCU encompassing an overall move that would lead to a new one avenger crossing. The main strands of the first 3 phases all culminated in the 2018 two-part event Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgamein which the Avengers had to defeat Thanos after he collected all 5 Infinity Stones and wiped out half of the universe’s population in an event called The Snap.
In general, Phase 4 encompasses all projects in the MCU that take place after the Snap, Iron Man’s death, and Thanos’ defeat endgameexcept for 2019 Spider-Man: Far From Home. This phase began in 2021 with the release of the Disney+ exclusive series WandaVision and so far includes the other live-action series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, hawk eyeand Mrs Miraclethe cartoon What happened if…?and the movies Black widow, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, eternal, Spider-Man: No Way Homeand Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The latest Phase 4 entry is the fourth Thor solo film Thor: Love and Thunderwhich continued the overall downward trend in critical ratings for Phase 4 by earning the fourth-lowest score of the entire MCU on Rotten Tomatoes.
This week, fans took to social media to discuss their favorite Phase 4 projects so far. This debate was perhaps spurred on by the low rating for Thor: Love and Thunder, which despite a Rotten Tomatoes curveball, is already on track to have the second-best opening weekend of the year. While Thor isn’t listed as a favorite yet because fans have yet to see it, many other Phase 4 titles are getting shoutouts as potential top picks. Check out selected fan tweets on the following topic:
That’s a hot take for me because the best phase 4 movies are imo shang chi and that’s it.
NWH hits, but I’m not a fan of his first act and the third act is definitely what brings him home (pun intended).

Let’s talk about how Shang Chi was the best Phase 4 MCU movie

Yk what’s crazy? A lot of project in sentence 4 and yet only a few stand out. And these were unexpected projects, like Moon Knight, WandaVision, Shang Chi. These were the highlight of Set 4 for me. Don’t add nwh here as it exceeds our expectations. https://t.co/NFBCvGrTpF

Although there are significant quotas to support all films, this seems doubtful Shang Chi is the most listed fan favorite overall. In hindsight, that’s a bit surprising Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s hugely successful box office run, but it’s possible fans who were enthralled by the crossover between Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland cooled the film down as a whole. On the television front, there are far more titles that are constantly contested, though WandaVision but seems to have emerged victorious moon knight stays in second place.
There are still some MCU phase 4 Projects to be released in the coming months. This includes the MCU series She-Hulk: Lawyer and Secret invasion as well as sequels too Ant Man and the Wasp, Black Pantherand Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 next to a transition between Captain Marvel and Mrs Miracle. With all the material emerging, it’s possible that a new project could catch up Shang Chi with the times, although for now, this film’s blend of classic kung fu film tropes and comic book fantasy seems like a winning combination, keeping it afloat over its peers.
